Anytime you camp near a place called Cape Foulweather what do you think the weathers gonna be like ? Right.
Our attempt at escaping the worst of the triple-digit heatwave was ,of course, to head to the beach. We tent camped at a popular state park with 350 other complete strangers, their kids and dogs and skunk cabbage as the main "lush forest" landscape plant. Skunk cabbage = damp = thick clouds of gnats and mosquitoes at sunset. The camp stove sputtered and died so it was meals on the campfire true gypsy style.
We had a beautiful time on the beaches finding tidepools and fossils. I was thankful every minute for the cool breeze coming off the ocean. It ended all too soon.
