Firewoods
Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year;
Chestnut's only good they say,
If for long it's put away.
Birch and fir logs burn too fast,
Blaze up bright and do not last.
It is by the Irish said
Hawthorne bakes the best of bread.
Elmwood burns like churchyard mould
Even the very flames are cold.
Poplar gives a bitter smoke
Fills your eyes and makes you choke.
Applewood will scent a room
With an incense-like perfume.
Oaken logs if dry and old
Keep away the winter's cold.
But Ash wet, or Ash dry
A Queen will warm her slippers by.

A very good way to remember which firewood is best at what time. We heat only with a wood burning fireplace, so this is good to know!
Hi,
I love this and I'm now trying translate correctly to portuguese to spread away :)
